Insurance Against Extreme Weather Events: An Overview

Abstract Extreme weather events increasingly threaten the economic situation of households and enterprises around world. Insurance against extreme is among climate change adaptation instruments that are currently discussed by policy community. This overview paper provides a synopsis state research on insurance events, outlining advantages limitations inherent in three main types insurance: indemnity-based insurance, index-based insurance-linked securities. The discusses issues related to uptake, distributional effects, misleading incentives potentially negative side as well role state.
